DAY 14 - THE FINISH - LIZARD POINT TO LAND'S END

My final day in the saddle!

I woke up before 7:00 to a beautiful sunrise over the sea. I had a wander down to the cliff tops near the hostel. I took in the spectacular views for a little while before returning to the hostel for a spot of breakie.

I left on the final leg of my journey once again at Cowboy Time, after having a good chat with the hostel manager and the Canadian couple.

I rode about the first ten miles back the way I came yesterday, before heading away from Helston and travelling towards Penzance on the A394.

Arriving in Penzance, I grabbed a sandwich and picked up the engagement ring for Jenni that I had ordered in Bolton before I started this trip.

With that done, I was back on the road for my final push to Land’s End.

Apart from a couple of hill climbs that caught me by surprise with their gradients, the last part was pretty flat, so I was able to enjoy the beautiful weather and rolling countryside.

I arrived at Land’s End just before 13:00 where I was greeted by a couple of car park attendants who, once they knew where I started off from, shook my hand and commended me for my efforts. It was a nice touch.

Going in to the ‘theme park,’ I didn’t really feel a sense of achievement, more just an uneasy feeling, seeing how tacky the place was. I know John O’Groats was tacky but, this place was on steroids in comparison.

I walked straight past everything to the cliff tops where I propped my bike up and took a seat on the grass before telling myself I had finally done it. John O’Groats to Land’s End plus the 3 Peaks – DONE!!!

I mulled around the area for a couple of hours and had some lunch whilst waiting for Jenni to arrive.

I also went to have my photo taken at the famous signpost where, I arranged with the photographer a little surprise for Jenni.

Eventually, Jenni rocked up with our daughter around 16:00 and I duly gave them both big hugs.

We all then went down to get a photo at the signpost where, a very shell-shocked Jenni, agreed to marry me!

With one huge journey over, a new one now begins……

DAILY MILEAGE – 42.9 MILES
