We got walking at 9:15 this morning, following the Snowdon Ranger Path all the way to the top. Like the other two mountains, this one had its own weather system going on. When we left the hostel, it was mild and grey with a bit of sun. From about half way up, we disappeared into cloud that was hugging the mountain and could barely see twenty metres ahead of us.
It got absolutely freezing the closer we got to the top but, for no reason apart from me being stubborn, I stayed in shorts and t-shirt until we reached the summit.
After getting the obligatory photos at the top – of us stood on a pile of rocks in thick cloud, which really could have been anywhere – we retreated to the safety of the mountain top café, where we grabbed some lunch before heading back down.
We made it up and down in four hours, including the time for lunch, getting back to the hostel before the rain set in.
After changing in to my cycle gear, I set off around 13:45 towards Trawsfynydd. I stopped in Beddgelert to visit the grave of Gelert, before heading through a town called Penrhyndeudraeth, soon after which I had to tackle a 3.5 miles long hill, before getting to my destination for the night where, I met up with Dave again.
I was absolutely drenched from the torrential downpour that arrived during my ride. I can’t really moan though as, this is the first time I’ve experienced this kind of weather over my entire trip. I’m more than happy not to experience it again though!
We grabbed a chippy for tea and, getting back to the hostel, we’ve realised we’re the only guests staying tonight so, we have full run of the building. Even the staff disappeared at 17:30!
I’m hoping to get an early dart tomorrow, knowing I’ve got my biggest and longest day ahead of me. I’m not looking forward to it but, if the sun shines, it will be a little bit better at least!
DAILY MILEAGE – 22.7 MILES
