I left Dave in the hostel car park at about 7:20 this morning to start my trip to St Briavels.
I cycled roughly 50 miles to Welshpool over some really tough hills along the way. I managed to get in to a stupid little argument with some woman over the etiquette of cycling when behind people. I didn’t bother wasting too much time on her!
After I got going again, I tracked the border of England and Wales for most of the journey with my first venture back on to English soil lasting literally ten seconds before the road took me back over to the Welsh side. It was like that pretty much the entire time with me generally having no idea what country I was in for most of the journey.
The final 25 miles saw me tackling some quite challenging hills, with one seeming to go on for way too long.
The final hill I tackled was just under two miles long and, was the road I had to take to get to St Briavels Castle where I’m staying tonight. It was not what I needed after 130 miles of cycling!
The hostel itself is very grand with many of the original features kept for good effect. It even has drooping wooden floors!
All in all, I’m glad today is over. I’m absolutely knackered after the ride and, 6:15 wake-up this morning. Saturday is another step closer!!
DAILY MILEAGE – 133.4 MILES
